Nothing transforms the look of your walls and the decor of your room like a wall mural. I love an elegant and classic decor style at the farm. I wanted my dining room to have a unique vintage look that feels peaceful and elegant-an antique scenic mural depicting a typical 18th century French scene. I love the old French Country estates that adorn their walls with the most beautiful scenes born from the imagination of 18th century painters.  These noble homes are so stylish with their peaceful landscape murals adding refined charm.

What is a Wall Mural?

“A wall mural is meant to be a show stopper. It is graphic artwork on the walls or ceilings. They date back to the early 1800’s in France. French artists like to paint nature, landscapes with a country scene. Landscapes are often urban or choose to emphasize an architectural element, sometimes antique, in a natural setting. Court figures are depicted participating in country lunches or country and gallant parties.  Murals add the peaceful decor in which the joy of living of the participants in the festival is expressed. Blue skies dotted with clouds, trees with exuberant foliage, shepherds and pastures are among the favorite themes of the 18th century. Artists also liked to depict the sumptuous dresses of noblewomen, accompanied in their gallant parties or their country escapades by charming marquises.”

Sounds amazing, right? Who wouldn’t want a piece of that in their home? I sure do.

This is the “before” of the buffet wall. This antique buffet has been in my family as far back as I can remember. It is one of my favorite treasures. Above the buffet hangs two sconces that I bought on a tri-state antique shopping trip with a girlfriend. Oh, what fun. The seller of the sconces said that they were from France. I love them so much.

This area is what I call the “keeping room”. A cozy sitting area, where my husband and I like to sit and chat. It is between the kitchen and dining room.

Dining Room, Wall Mural, French Country

This is the far end of the dining room. The kitchen/eating nook area and the dining room were two separate spaces that really shut off the dining room and living room from the rest of the house. We took down the wall that separated the rooms-now we have one big open space. We use the dining room and living room so much more now. When we took the wall down, we added these vintage brick floors. It is one of my favorite parts of the whole house.

As with any home project, they rest of the house always looks like your grandmothers attic, stuffed to the gills with loads of stuff. (Oh wait. Am I that grandmother now? Yikes!) This isn’t my favorite part of the journey. The mess stresses me out.

However, when you turn around and look into the dining room, you will see this!

I love the finished mural so much. It is so stylish with a peaceful landscape and it adds a refined charm to the dining room.

Oh, my goodness! Oh, my goodness! I am so in love.

Doesn’t this gorgeous vintage chandelier look amazing in the dining room? I just got it on a trip to Round Top. I was so so excited about it that I hung it up, now we don’t have electricity in half of the house. But it does look gorgeous.

Awe, isn’t this so sweet? My husband and I are high school sweethearts. I love that she added this to the mural. The mural adds the finishing touch to my dining room. I just couldn’t be happier with it. Do you think that my husband would mind if we slept in the dining room from now on? It is my favorite room in the house.

This looks to be very pretty! I have to mention that the header for your site is so looming that it blocks the photos and makes them very hard to see. This is the only blog I have seen this with. Otherwise, very nice.

    1. I had that same problem with the header-I had to clear the cache on my computer and that fixed the problem. Try that and keep me posted.

  2. Renae,
This mural is just stunning. I know you will love it for years to come.

    1. I sure will. I just can’t stop looking at it. I have always wanted one. Hugs to you.

  3. It turned out lovely. When I was little my mother painted the most breath taking mural in our living room that flanked the fireplace. It had swans and the details were incredible. Ever since I have been captivated with murals. Some people have such talent.

  4. Very pretty, Renae! How special to have it in your home!

    1. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you don’t sleep. Ha! I adore the mural. It is so much fun.

Beautiful interiors don’t have to come with an outrageous price tag. My style is what I like to call Vintage French Farmhouse, I love mixing decorating styles, especially opposites like the glitz of a chandelier dripping in crystals with a chair upholstered in worn aged leather. Refined, yet not too formal-but, livable, elegant traditional design, adding warmth and vintage elements.
