If you’re looking for an easy weekend project, consider building a simple shelf. This tutorial will show you how to build a shelf that is both sturdy and stylish.
Best of all, it doesn’t require any fancy tools or materials – just a few basic supplies from your local hardware store. So what are you waiting for? Start building your own shelf today!
How do you make a shelf step by step?

If you are like me, then you are always looking for ways to maximize your storage space. Well, look no further! Today I am going to show you how to build a simple shelf that will help you organize all of your belongings. This project is easy enough for anyone to do, and it only requires a few materials that you probably already have lying around the house. So without further ado, let’s get started!
I needed a place to put the things that I use everyday in the bathroom. I don’t have a medicine cabinet on my side of the vanity. So, I decided that I was going to build a simple shelf.
I had some corbels that I wasn’t using. My next step was to head to the barn and go through my scrap pile of lumber. The corbel is 8 1/2″ from back to front, I knew that I was going to need a 1X10″ board to top the corbels. I also needed some trim. Luckily I had what I needed.
The first step was to measure how wide of a shelf would fit in the space. Then, using my level-I drew a level line.

Then I marked where I was going to hang my corbels. Once I hung them, I measured how wide I wanted my shelf board.
Is it cheaper to build your own shelves?
Find out how to make your own shelf with wood and corbels. This easy DIY project only takes a less than an hour to complete! I built this shelf with wood, and corbels. It’s easy and cheap! Especially if you are using scrap materials like I did. And, oftentimes, you will end up with a better quality product.

I measured, with my measuring tape, and cut my shelf board with my Ryobi saw.

Next, I cut the trim pieces with a 45 degree cut at the corners of the shelf board. I attached the trim pieces to the 1×10′ shelf board with my nail gun. The trim really elevates the shelf and makes it look more finished.

I attached the shelf board to the corbels using construction adhesive. Then I filled the nail holes with spackle and caulked all of the seams. I let it dry. Then I painted the entire the shelf white. I absolutely love how it looks. It only took me about an hour, start to finish, to do this project.

Then, I painted the shelf and let it dry. I am so happy with it. I love the details of the corbels. They are so pretty. Thanks for sticking with me through this entire post.
