Hey Friends!

Today, I am sharing How to Create Vintage Charm with Bead Board Wallpaper. Come on, I’ll show you.

I love a cozy home that feels comfortable the second that you walk into it. That doesn’t mean that your house has to be perfect by any means. In fact, a home that has imperfections in it just feels better-like someone lives there-like home.

We recently bought a lake house that was built in 2000. It has great bones, but it doesn’t have the cozy, lived in feeling that I love so much. But, that is also the good part-because I get to add my touch to it and make it home for my friends and family.

I am going to show you How to Create Vintage Charm with Beadboard Wallpaper.

Blue walls with bunk bed

This is the pic of the room from the MLS listing. The room is a great size, it has gorgeous large windows that look out onto the courtyard and it is the perfect space to create a bunk room for when my grand babies come to visit.

When I was a young girl, my grandparents lived on a ranch way up in the foothills. There home was a very old house that had so much lived in character. The upstairs was a large open space that was filled with mismatched vintage beds.

My cousins, siblings and I (there were 16 of us) loved spending the night with my grandparents. We would talk and giggle until we finally fell asleep.

To this day, it is one of my fondest childhood memories and I want that for my grandkids.

I adore bead board, but the 8’x4′ bead board panels from the hardware store are much too large for me to handle on my own. I was looking for a quick and easy way to add the vintage charm of bead board that I could do myself.

I found the most amazing Bead Board Wallpaper that you are going to love.

It looks and feels real. It is affordable and quick and easy to install. I did the whole room in just a few hours. You can get the bead board wallpaper here. Stock up on this wallpaper, as you are going to want to hang this wallpaper in every room of your house.

I may or may not be in the process of doing this very thing as we speak. My poor husband never knows if he is in the right house. Did I mention that you can paint this wallpaper any color that you want?

It is such a nice thick wallpaper that you can easily use it to cover imperfections on your walls.

The first thing that I had to do was to empty out the room.

Then I had to fill all of the holes with spackle.

finding the plumb line

TIP: Drawing a plumb line before you hang your first piece of wallpaper is key to hanging your wallpaper perfectly straight. You definitely don’t want to ‘eye it’ only to find out later that your wallpaper is slightly crooked.

measuring wallpaper

I wanted my wallpaper from floor to ceiling, so I measured my wall with a tape measure, then I added an extra 3″ when I measured my wallpaper.

straight edge and wallpaper

I use a straight edge when marking my wallpaper. This ensures that my cut is always perfectly straight.

cutting wallpaper

Be sure to use really sharp scissors when you are cutting your wallpaper, you don’t want a torn edge on your wallpaper.

After you cut your piece of wallpaper, fill a wallpaper water tub or your bathtub with lukewarm water.

Immerse the wallpaper in the water for 30 seconds. Allow the wallpaper paste to activate for 5 minutes by folding the wallpaper with both ends coming into the center.

This is called folding.

Hanging wallpaper

For your first piece of wallpaper, you will need to match it up to the plumb line. For the rest of the wallpaper, you will need to line up the seams, making sure not to overlap the edges.

Remove any excess wallpaper paste with a sponge of washcloth.

Trimming wallpaper

TIP: A fresh new blade is essential for cutting through the wallpaper cleanly.

Using a cutting guide and a box cutter with a new blade, trim any excess wallpaper from the ceiling, trims or outlets.

After the wallpaper is dry, at least 24 hours, paint to match your decor.

Alabaster by Sherwin Williams is my all time favorite color, so that it what I am using to this room as well.

Great post Renae. I've often wondered about the wall paper version of beadboard and can honestly say yours look fabulous. Thank you for sharing your breadboard decorating at Create, Bake, Grow & Gather this week. I'm delighted to be featuring it at tonight's party and pinning too. Hugs, Kerryanne

Great post! But what really grabbed my attention was the vintage print of a Scottie dog. I now have my second little Braveheart, now 16 month old Whiskey.

In Florida, we have orange peel texture on the walls but I wonder if that beadboard wallpaper would work??? Yours looks so real! Good luck with the ORC! Can't wait to see the finished room! Donna
