How to Make a Festive Holiday Hot Cocoa Bar

How to Make a Festive Holiday Hot Cocoa Bar

Hey Friends!

Welcome! I am so glad that you are here. I always enjoy our time together. Don’t you just love a steaming cup of hot cocoa on a chilly winters night while you are curled up on the sofa with a fuzzy blanket watching a classic Christmas movie? What is your favorite Christmas movie? White Christmas, It’s a Wonderful life, Miracle on 34th Street? I had so much fun putting together a hot cocoa bar with all of the fixings to make the hot cocoa oh, so, special. Today, I am going to show you How to Make a Festive Holiday Hot Cocoa Bar. Come on, I’ll show you.

Hot Cocoa Bar Ideas for Christmas– great tips and tricks for a great hot chocolate station.

How to Make a Christmas Hot Chocolate Station

I love my vintage sideboard that is in my dining room. It was in my house as I was growing up and I have had it in my house as an adult for over 30 years now. To say it is precious to me, would be an understatement. It is the perfect place to set up the hot chocolate station. I know that there is quite the controversy over hot cocoa vs. hot chocolate. I don’t sweat the small stuff, so I am going to use the terms interchangeably.

White cocoa mugs stacked on top o a large white cake pedastol , stacked in the shape of a christmas tree topped with Christmas greenery and and a gold star.
This is such a great idea for the hot chocolate station.

TIP: Stacking the hot cocoa mugs is a great way to conserve space, and they look oh, so adorable.

I stacked my mugs on a large cake pedastol-I wanted it to look like a Christmas Tree. I tucked a gold glittered star into the top mug along with some Christmas floral picks. This idea made me so giddy.

A vintage three tiered silver tray stacked with Christmas cookies and candy tied with a red tartan plaid bow, a small Christmas wreath leans up against the 3 tiered tray, a lit candle sit Hot cocoa toppings in glass canisters tied with red plaid tartan bows sits atop a wood countertop in a classic white kitchen, a heart made out of candy canes
I just love the labels and tartan ribbons.

How can I make Hot Chocolate More Interesting?

Start by being creative, not only with the great toppings but with how you stage everything. I love making the accessories look special. I found several glass canisters to put my toppings in, you can get them here, here, here, here and here. I used chalkboard labels and a white marking pen to label each of the toppings. I tied tartan plaid ribbon to each of the canisters-here are some options, here, here and here. I put some fun red and white striped straws on the hot cocoa bar as well.

The toppings are so much fun! I had fresh whipped cream, it is so much tastier than cool whip, it is creamy deliciousness-I served it in this this container, it makes it so easy to serve and it keeps things clean and tidy. Don’t forget the candy cane crunch, Holly berry sprinkles(these are the cutest sprinkles ever), and mini marshmallows that I mixed together in one container, Ghiradelli Chocolate and Caramel sauces and candy canes. You could also add hot chocolate bombs. Yum!

Oh, the Magic of Christmas!

I would love for you to subscribe to my YouTube Channel here.

As a child, my mom made the best homemade hot cocoa recipe, ever! She made it in an enormous green Tupperware bowl. Seeing her make the hot cocoa mix was the start of the Magic of Christmas. With five kids in the house, we went through that big bowl of homemade hot chocolate mix pretty fast. It is so much tastier than the hot cocoa in the packets. I put the Hot Chocolate Mix in this container, labeled it and tied it with a tartan plaid ribbon. This would make a great Christmas gift or a lovely hostess gift.

The Hot Cocoa Bar Sign

A beautiful hot cocoa bar sign with holly berries on sign in a vintage gold frame, hung from a beautiful forest green velvet ribbon, flocked evergreen floral picks with pinecones tucked into the ribbon
Hot Cocoa Bar Ideas for Christmas
  1. I started with a lovely vintage frame. Of course, it had to be gold. I stapled black velvet to the back of the frame, so that I can use it repeatedly.
  2. I used a 12 x 12″ square of black construction paper for the background.
  3. I used a stencil to trace the letters onto white construction paper and cut them out
  4. Then I drew holly leaves onto green glittered paper and circles, for holly berries onto red glitter paper. I cut these out and added them to the frame.
  5. I tied a lovely green velvet ribbon to the frame hanger and hung the frame from the ribbon. I poked in some flocked Christmas greenery to the top of the frame.

Doesn’t this look great? It is so easy to do.

The Final Touches to The Hot Cocoa Bar

I added a vintage “Little Drummer Boy”. I found this at an antique store this year and I absolutely adore him. I also added small and medium sized Christmas trees around the top of the side board.

And that’s it! I can’t wait to be gathered around the Christmas Tree with friends and family, with hot cocoa in hand, celebrating the true Reason for the Season.

The hot cocoa bar is so inviting! And it sounds like it is on a treasured piece of furniture 😊 As for my favorite movie, I would say Miracle on 34th - the old version and the newer version! Merry Christmas Renae!
